DGDS® Outline

DGDS®(Drug Gas Delivery System) is a brand new DDS (Drug Delivery System) of transdermal absorption, which takes volatile bioactive component into the body in gaseous condition safely and steadily.

It was developed as a technology which administers a volatile component (terpenoid) in the plant secondary metabolite safely. Although they know a lot of pharmacological effect of aromatherapy, it is generally just from their empirical knowledge. However, DGDS® enable us to evaluate the pharmacological effect statistically and produce an effective preparation.

Furthermore, by utilizing DGDS®, it enables us to study the pharmacological in vivo effect of terpene compound (volatile component like plant secondary metabolite of natural plant) steadily and quantitatively. On the planet, there exist around 275,000 kinds of flowering plants in which terpene compound are contained. The utilization ratio of it, however, is only 0.5% yet.
